A program of LINGU.LAND English Academy

You know English.
Now learn to unlock it.

Discover how spoken English really works. Learn to recognize, analyze and understand natural speech — and develop the foundation to guide your own learning.

One live session, in English. No placement test, no level labels.

The gap

You can read it. You can write it. Then someone speaks.

Years of grammar and vocabulary leave most learners with a strange kind of competence: fluent on the page, lost in a conversation. The reason is rarely vocabulary.

/wɒtʃəˈduːɪŋ/
What are you doing?
Words collapse into each other. You are listening for four words and hearing one shape.
/ˈkʌmftəbl̩/
comfortable
Syllables you expect are not there. Unstressed vowels reduce until they almost disappear.
/ˈdezət/ · /dɪˈzɜːt/
desert · dessert
Stress carries meaning. Move it and the word changes — or stops being a word.
/ən‿ˈaɪ/
and I
Sounds link across word boundaries. The boundary you were taught is not audible.

None of this is a vocabulary problem, and none of it is solved by listening more. It is solved by learning what you are listening to.

The approach

Sound, analyzed — not accent, corrected.

The academy teaches spoken English as a structure that can be taken apart: seven subjects, studied in order, so that you can go on analyzing speech on your own.

01/s/

Sound recognition

Hearing English as a finite set of distinct sounds.

02IPA

The phonetic alphabet

Every sound gets a symbol you can write and reason about.

03·

Syllable structure

Onset, nucleus, coda — what decides how a word can sound at all.

04ˈ ˌ

Stress

Primary and secondary beats: the most common reason you are not understood.

05‿

Linking

How sounds join, and why the gaps you expect are not there.

06ə

Reduction

Weak forms and the schwa — the engine of everything that sounds fast.

07≈

Connected speech

Assimilation, elision and the rhythm of whole phrases.

Goal

Independent learning

The analytical foundation to keep teaching yourself after the program ends.

The structure

A three-month study program.

Three months, moving in one direction: from single sounds, to words, to connected speech.

Phase I
Weeks 1–4

Sounds and symbols

The sound inventory of English and the IPA notation for it. Hearing and writing individual sounds accurately before anything is built on top of them.

Phase II
Weeks 5–8

Words and stress

Syllable structure, primary and secondary stress, and vowel reduction inside words. Where the beat of a word falls, and what happens to everything around it.

Phase III
Weeks 9–12

Connected speech

Linking, assimilation, elision and phrase rhythm. Taking apart natural speech at full speed, and working without the instructor.

Session days, times and group size are set per cohort. Dates and fees are confirmed directly with applicants — nothing is published here that has not been fixed.

Sound analysis

What an analysis actually looks like.

“What are you doing?”
/ˈwɒt‿ə‿jə ˈduːɪŋ/
/ˈwɒtʃə ˈduːɪŋ/
written → linked → as heard

Every phrase studied in the program is taken apart the same way: five layers, in this order, always.

·
Syllables
five in the written form
ˈ
Stress
two beats carry the phrase
ə
Reduction
function words fall to the schwa
‿
Linking
three words, one stretch of sound
≈
Assimilation
the single shape a listener hears

How it works

Four steps, in this order.

There is no instant checkout. The masterclass comes first, and enrolment is only discussed after a conversation.

01

Join the free masterclass

One live session, in English. It is the shortest honest way to find out whether this way of working suits you.

02

Apply to the program

A short application. It asks what you want from spoken English and how much time you can give it.

03

A qualification conversation

Applications are read individually. If the program looks like a fit, the next step is a short conversation to confirm that.

04

Enrolment

Only after that conversation. Dates, group size and fees are confirmed with you directly — nothing is charged from this page.

Supporting tools — IPAZER, SoundIPA, Wordefine, Wordy — are built by LINGU.LAND and used alongside the training. The teaching does not depend on them, and they are not the educational product.

The next step

Join the free masterclass.

One live session, in English. Your registration is recorded as an interest entry — the date and the number of places have not been set yet. Registering does not yet reserve a confirmed seat, and you will be contacted with the details when it is fixed.

So the session is scheduled at an hour you can attend.

A few sentences is plenty. It shapes the examples used in the session.

The date and the number of places are not set yet, so this does not reserve a confirmed seat.

No price is published, because none has been fixed for a published cohort. Fees are confirmed directly with applicants.
